We consider that our children are growing up in a world where technology plays a vital role in our lives and it is therefore our intention to introduce pupils to computers as soon as they enter Nursery and to develop those skills throughout the school. We use computers to support and develop all areas of the curriculum, where appropriate. Children will use computers to develop skills in word-processing, data handling, modelling of information and control of devices. As children progress through the school, they will be encouraged to use and explore the capacity of a computer and to analyse, for themselves, how the computer can support their learning. When teaching we focus on motivating the children and building on their skills, knowledge and understanding of the curriculum.
Starz+, our e-mail network for staff and pupils
From year 1 our children will experience and use STARZ+ which is a safe and monitored virtual learning platform. Please use the link below (Your child will have a unique user name and password to access this site)
We have a comprehensive scheme of work for teaching children about e-safety from Year 1 onwards.
How can I help my child?
- Help them learn mouse control and keyboard skills. The BBC website has a fun typing skills section http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing/
- Remind your children about e-safety and monitor your child when using the internet. Childnet International has published a resource for parents and carers : video guides for the free Internet Service Provider parental controls. They have been working with BT, Sky, Talk Talk and Virgin Media, who have each made short video clips outlining where you can find their free parental controls, what they do and how you set them up. These films are available on the UK Safer Internet Centre website
