Our young leaders consist of 24 children from years 5 and 6 who support the lunchtime staff by organising and running lunchtime games and activities for the younger children.
Possible leaders are required to fill out an application form stating their reasons for applying and outlining their main skills that they can bring to the role.
Once selected, the group of children are trained through the Witchford Sports Partnership, equipping them with the knowledge and skills that they require to be successful leaders. The playground leaders are taught how to break down activities and games, alter them for different groups and understand how to make them fun, fair and safe for all of the children playing.
The leaders work in pairs and plan activities for 1 lunchtime in a 2 weekly cycle. They organise their activity and prepare the resources and equipment that is required for the game to run successfully. The young leaders meet half termly with a member of staff to discuss any problems that they have encountered or any new, fresh and exciting ideas and initiatives which will continue to motivate and inspire the children.
We are currently in the process of recruiting new young leaders for the new academic year.
