Welcome to Year 5
Welcome to Year 5! Our team can’t wait for the year ahead and would like to invite you to see some of the exciting learning that the children will be taking part in this year. Our aim is to develop children’s love for learning; and we want to build on the children’s skills to become independent learners who are keen to challenge themselves both academically and socially. Thank you in advance for your support and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

Home Learning Expectations
Children are expected to read five times a week for at least 20 minutes, which should be recorded in their reading journal (please ensure this is in school each day so reading can be recorded in school).
Spellings will be sent home at the beginning of each half term, and the children will be tested weekly in school. Times tables will be set and practised on Times Tables Rockstars, login details will be in the children’s homework book. Please use the homework book as a space to practise spellings and times tables.
Additionally, a homework menu will be posted on Class Dojo at the beginning of each half term, with a range of optional activities for you to complete- we would love to see these, so please post pictures on Class Dojo or send in to school on the last week of half term.
PE Days
PE is on a Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school in PE kits on these days.
Year 5 Reading Spine
Below is a recommended list of books for year 5 children, we have copies of these in school and will be looking at a variety of them throughout the year. Please feel free to discuss these with your child/encourage them to read these books or others by these authors. Please contact your class teacher if you’d like to discuss these books or receive other recommendations.
