The Weatheralls Primary School

Welcome to Year 5

Welcome to year 5! Our team can’t wait for the year ahead and would like to invite you to see some of the exciting learning that the children will be taking part in this year.  Our aim is to develop children’s love for learning; and we want to build on the children’s skills to become independent learners who are keen to challenge themselves both academically and socially.  Thank you in advance for your support and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

Home Learning Expectations

Home learning will be put on Class Dojo every Friday and is due in the following Friday.  Each week children will practise spellings, reading and times tables daily.  Additionally, there will be a maths activity based on the learning from the week.  For topic, a task will be set that will focus on our curriculum drivers; so it may be a ‘revisit’ task of something which has been done in the topic lesson that week, it may be a ‘ready’ task which may be research or pre- learn something for a session or ‘reframe’ where the task will be applying learning into a different context.

PE Days

PE is on a Tuesday and Friday. Please come to school in PE kits on these days.

 Year 5 Reading Spine

Below is a recommended list of books for year 5 children, we have copies of these in school and will be looking at a variety of them throughout the year.  Please feel free to discuss these with your child/encourage them to read these books or others by these authors.  Please contact your class teacher if you’d like to discuss these books or receive other recommendations.
